Kybella™ in Grand Rapids, MI

Kybella is an injection, specifically a deoxycholic acid, that separates and breaks apart stubborn fat deposits, allowing them to be removed through your body’s natural process of elimination. It’s a non-surgical option for removing fat from smaller areas like the chin and neck. Once the fat has been eliminated through Kybella treatment, it cannot come back as long as you maintain your weight. 

What to Expect with Kybella

First, the injection site is marked in a grid-like pattern to ensure proper distribution of Kybella for an even appearance. Then we apply a topical numbing agent to help with pain and discomfort. Once the numbing has taken effect, Kybella is injected in 20 – 50 spots, which takes about 20 minutes.

Afterward, the most common side effects are pain, swelling, bruising and numbness. These usually subside in two weeks or less.

Is Kybella safe?

Yes. Kybella is FDA-approved as a fat reduction method. The deoxycholic acid in Kybella is highly refined for safe injection. Kybella is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction, but is NOT intended for weight loss.

Don’t worry about your double chin coming back—results are permanent as long as you maintain your weight. That’s because fat can’t come back once it’s removed from your body. But existing fat cells can expand and grow in the area, which is what happens with weight gain.

The number of treatments depends on the amount of fat in the area being treated. On average, most patients see results after 2 – 3 treatments. How many treatments you need is determined during your initial consultation with us. 

Results are usually noticeable about 3 weeks after treatment, but become more obvious 2 – 3 months after treatment. 

Not really. Most patients have a bit of discomfort after treatment, as you would with any shot, but can generally go about their business.

The most common side effects of Kybella are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of firmness in the treatment area.
